Williamsburg Craft Beer

We've lived in Williamsburg for a little over four years now, but really just started going downtown on a regular basis.  My neighbor introduced us to a free, casual 5k held at DoG Street Pub every Monday evening.  It's sponsored by the pub, and when you finish, you can enjoy discounted beer on their patio. You even get a t shirt when you've been 5 times.  The pub also just opened a bottle shop next door called Hair of the DoG and they do free tastings every Friday from 5-8.  Last night we went to the tasting and then had dinner and flights at the pub.

We also went to Alerwerks Brewing Company for the first time last weekend (with Afton, of course) and enjoyed a large flight of all of their beers.  My favorites were the coffeehouse stout, drake tail ipa, and white ale.

Another brewery (Virginia Beer Company) is scheduled to open in Williamsburg this fall - it may be time to look for a babysitter.

Ikea Kallax Hack

Ikea, Etsy, and local thrift stores have helped me do some decorating over the last few months.  They allow me to keep costs down, but also find some fun, unique, and modern pieces.  I also have a Pinterest board for most rooms in my house where I pin both things I want and things I already have in the room - it helps to see them all pictured together.

I am unfortunately three hours from the nearest Ikea, so I have to plan wisely (and even still, usually wait a few months before I actually make it there), but last time we went, I was able to get the kallax shelving units I've been eyeing.  They were easy to put together (surprise!) and then instead of getting cloth boxes to fill some of the cubbies, I followed this tutorial using canvases.  It turned out great!  We need to keep things toddler proof - and while the canvases haven't been played with much, if my toddler does decide to destroy decorate them at some point, they are inexpensive to switch out.

We have yet to finish our gallery wall around the tv and put the furniture back where it was, but here's how the ikea hack turned out.  Thanks for the tutorial, Dans De Lakehouse!  And sorry for the cell phone pictures.  When aforementioned toddler lets me have time to take and edit better pictures, I will do so.

First Birthday Brunch

1:24:00 PM Anna 0 Comments

I'm pretty sure I started pinning first birthday party ideas when my baby was about 7 months old and the actual decorating began weeks before the party.  I thought it'd be best to do what I could early, knowing I'd really regret procrastinating when I'd have 15 adults and 8 kids coming over, whether I was ready or not.  We didn't go overboard with a theme, but we had brunch and decorated with streamers, balloons, and flowers.  Instead of a cake smash, we did donuts.  And really, this party was for the parents, so we had a coffee bar and mimosas, too.  It was a lot of fun and went smoothly - the only downside was all the leftovers we had to eat that week.

 Happy birthday, baby!
